In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, one innovation that has profoundly impacted our daily lives is WiFi. Short for Wireless Fidelity, WiFi has revolutionized the way we connect to the internet, enabling seamless and convenient access to information, entertainment, and communication.
The roots of WiFi can be traced back to the 1980s when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) opened up the unlicensed 2.4 GHz frequency band for industrial, scientific, and medical use. This move laid the foundation for the development of wireless communication technologies. In 1991, the first wireless network, known as WaveLAN, was introduced by NCR Corporation.

The term "WiFi" was coined in 1999 by the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), which later became the WiFi Alliance. The Alliance was formed with the goal of promoting interoperability and ensuring that various wireless communication devices could communicate seamlessly. The first WiFi standard, IEEE 802.11b, was ratified in 1999, offering data transfer rates of up to 11 Mbps.
Since the inception of WiFi, various standards have been developed to enhance speed, security, and overall performance. IEEE 802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac, and 802.11ax are some of the key standards that have been introduced over the years. Each new standard has brought improvements in terms of data transfer speeds, range, and reliability, meeting the growing demands of users.
